A high-quality, authentic Japanese chasen crafted from Kyoto-grown bamboo by skilled artisans. Although Nara’s Takayama region is renowned as the “home of chasen,” this whisk is made nearby in southern Kyoto using traditional craftsmanship and offers the same exceptional quality and precision.
Features:
• Type: Black Bamboo “Shin” (真型) — suitable for both usucha (thin tea) and koicha (thick tea).
• Performance: Whisks up fine froth for usucha and allows smooth kneading for koicha.
• Style: The “Shin” form is used in formal tea ceremonies.
• Material: Natural black bamboo (Shichiku), not dyed — safe and durable.
Black bamboo, a variety of hachiku, naturally develops its deep purple-black hue from autumn onwards and retains this elegant colour after harvesting. Traditionally used in Sōmuryū tea ceremonies, it is also increasingly adopted by Omotesenke practitioners as a substitute for the rarer smoked bamboo (susudake).
A refined, reliable choice for tea ceremony practitioners who value authenticity and craftsmanship.
